“The National Letter of Intent Signing is when a prospective student-athlete agrees to attend a designated college or university for one academic year,” according to ncaa.com.

One Middletown High School student has just signed a National Letter of Intent Signing on Nov. 15. MHS senior Brittain Altomare has signed with Hofstra University to play lacrosse.

Altomare never considered Hofstra in the beginning, but once she had a visit to New York to see the school, she fell in love with it.

“They sent me a list over the summer and when I saw the campus I knew it was the college for me,” said MHS senior Brittain Altomare.

Altomare is excited about starting Hofstra next year and can’t wait to be on the field and play lacrosse.

Altomare said, “I cannot wait to start the next chapter of my life.”

Altomare’s mother, Cathy, said that she was “thrilled that she found the perfect fit and proud that she’s brave enough to go to New York City by herself.”

Altomare’s friends and family were there to support her through the signing. Brittain’s sister Taylor was there and she knew that Hofstra was the right choice for her sister.

“She is excited to go to New York and it’s a good place for her to go and I will really miss her,” said MHS sophomore Taylor Altomare.

Not only were her friends and family were there, Altomare’s coaches were there was well.

Altomare’s high school lacrosse coach Dawn Rothenhoefer said that “Ever since Brittain was a freshman she had been on the varsity team. She is one of the hardest working players and has matured into a great leader on the team.”

Altomare had another fan present; her lacrosse club coach, Bill Sardella.

“I’m really happy of her accomplishment. She started in ’05, about 6th grade. I could tell she was a special kid. She grew up to be a leader on the club team and Hofstra is lucky to have her,” said Sardella.
