Boys Soccer: Hot and delayed, yet gratifying

The Middletown High School boys soccer team took down the Warriors 2-1 after a 30 minute delay in the second half.

On Wednesday night the boys’ varsity soccer team faced off against Boonsboro in a hot, delayed, yet victorious match.

After dominating the first half, junior Devon Tan netted the first goal for MHS with 3 minutes left.

Local youth sports organizations MVAA and WMAA were honored at halftime, and then the game commenced once again. After 6 minutes of back-and-forth play, Lightning to the north forced the referees to delay the game for half an hour.

After deliberation, the teams and fans could return to the stadium to finish the second half, starting at 8:40 P.M. The teams stretched, and play continued.

Senior Middletown Captain Justin Hohl crossed the ball to Senior Connor Smith 1 minute into play, and Smith landed the ball in the net for a 2-0 Middletown lead.

The second half was intense. Hot, muggy showdowns between strikers and defenders were frequent, and goalies Eric Reichelt for Middletown and Jarrett Rickards for Boonsboro both got their time to shine.

With 8 minutes left, Middletown was unable to defend from relentless Boonsboro attack, and the score was upped to 2-1 with a Boonsboro goal. The Middletown boys continued to work hard until the last whistle, when the hard fought victory was real.

Coach Jeff Colsh gives extra credit to the defenders and keeper Reichelt for holding out against the powerful Warriors.

The J.V. Boys beat the Warriors 4-0 with goals by Will Tuten, Evan Tuckey, and 2 for Josh Woozley. It was their first win, after a disappointing tie with the North Hagerstown Hubs on Monday.
