Show someone you Care…..The SGA and Mr. Beavan’s Horticulture class will be selling flowers for Valentine’s Day.  Pre-orders will be taken during all lunch shifts on Thursday and Friday this week and Monday next week.  Cost is $2.00 for a single flower arrangement and $5.00 for 3-flower arrangement.  These will be delivered on Tuesday – Valentine’s Day during 1st block.

Attention FFA Members: All members must sign up for an agriculture class next year in order to maintain FFA membership. These classes are Horticulture, Pre-Vet, Ag Science, Horse Care, Forestry and Wildlife, and Engine and Power.

 

The Maryland Leadership Workshop has openings this summer at Washington College. The deadline to apply is February fifteenth, and there is a tuition fee. More information is available in Guidance.

 

Students between the ages of six and eighteen who make a difference in their community by volunteering may be nominated for the Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program. More information can be found in Guidance.

 

The bocce team ended an exciting match against Catoctin in a 2-2 tie last night.  The Bocce team travels to Urbana on Monday to compete in the county championship tournament. 
 

 

Come cheer on the Unified Bocce team as they host Catoctin today in their final matchup before the county tournament. The mats starts at 3:30 pm in the Cafeteria.

SGA Talent show auditions are Wednesday, February 8th @ 2:30 in the auditorium.  This will be your last chance to try-out for the Talent Show in March.  There is a prize for 1st place for Talent and 1st place for Bands.  See Ms. Anderson or Ms. Gibson to complete an entry form.

The drama directors send a big Thank You to the more than 60 students who auditioned for West Side Story.  Congratulations to those who were cast.  We are looking forward to a GREAT show!  Be sure to initial the cast list to indicate your acceptance of the part and see Mrs. Nicklas for a script.  Keep checking the drama board for the date of the first cast meeting.

 

All Mrs. Mattingly students from semester 1 have until the end of the day tomorrow, Friday Feb 3, to pick up their projects. All remaining projects will be disposed of.

 

Finishing the season strong, both the girls’ and boys’ swimming and diving teams won their meets last night against Tuscarora. The girls won with a score of ONE HUNDRED ELEVEN to SEVENTY FOUR. Multiple winners include Cheslea Rossick, Sarah Weltman, Kameryn Corcoran, and Georgie Hatch. Maddie Nissel won the diving event.
The boys’ team battled it down to the last relay with a score of NINETY SEVEN to EIGHTY EIGHT. Multiple winners on the boy’s team include Zach Lilley, Ryan Kelsey, Andrew Pressly, Matt Walchuck, Eric Darby, and Harrison Boyce.

 

 

Remember that we are getting ready to schedule this week and next.  Be sure and talk to your teachers about the classes you want to take.  Students who plan to attend the Career Tech Center will be scheduling on the first day.  You will be called from class on Thursday to report to the auditorium.  Please bring pencil, paper, and be ready to make some selections.  First period will be “rising Seniors” Second period will be “rising Juniors” and finally Fourth period will be Rising Sophomores”.

Hospice of Frederick County is looking for students who would be willing to spare a weekend to be a “Big Buddy” to a child who is grieving the loss of a loved one. Camp Jamie will be held May eighteenth through twentieth. The Guidance Office has more information for those who are interested.

 

Congratulations to the boys’ basketball program for its 2-game sweep at Thomas Johnson last night.  The JV team built an 18-point halftime lead and then fought off TJ in the second half.  Bradley Rinehart led the JV Knights with 16 points.  The varsity team also had a strong first half before TJ tied the score in the second half.  The Knights then pulled away in the closing minutes behind the solid play of Zach Fontenot, Conner Mills, Ethan Winn, Michael Pritts, and Jack Panther.

 

Students from Ms. Grebe’s Ceramics and Art 1 class from last semester need to pick up their projects before Friday.  Anything left behind will be discarded.

The Unified Bocce team played Brunswick to a tie yesterday.  Thanks to the Middletown swim team for all their help.  The next Bocce game is next Monday at home.

Led by multiple winners, Zach Lilley, Ryan Kelsey, Andrew Pressly and Matthew Walchuck, the boys won with a score of one hundred three to eighty-eight. The girls team won with a score of one hundred nine to eighty. Multiple winners were Chelsea Rossick and Elena Marrone. Maddie Nissel was the diving winner. Congratulations to all!
