Despite the snow on the ground, the Middletown High School girls’ tennis team is finding a way to practice and condition like every other season.  With almost half of the MHS cleared clean of snow and the privilege of practice time at the Indoor Tennis Barn, the team is eager to earn a secure spot on the team and showcase their skills at the first match.

With nine returning players, the girls have a very positive outlook for their upcoming season and the six returning seniors look forward to playing together.

“Of course our practices are hard, especially when we do conditioning, but I love the working with this group of girls,” said MHS returning senior Megan Cevallos.

Because of the loss of actual playing time during tryouts due to having only one open court, the test to make the team consisted mainly of sprints and conditioning.

“Not much playing time was available during tryouts because all 12 of us were on the court at the same time, it was a lot of conditioning,” said MHS junior Kate Smith.

Aside from that, the only possible setback the team may face is the loss of two graduating players, Kelly Robertson and Emily Maerz. 

“There are versatile, experienced players who could succeed competing in singles or doubles. Kelly and Emily will definitely be missed, but I’m sure our team will still do great,” said MHS junior Kate Smith.
