The State of Maryland International Reading Council (SoMIRAC) annually holds a writing competition for young authors. Middletown High School students participated in the young adult division of 9th to 12th graders. For the contest and for the future, MHS staff offered advice for writing purposefully and effectively.

Lauren Runnells is a sophomore at Middletown High School. This is her first semester in journalism and she is looking forward to furthering her knowledge in media. Her interest in writing and learning new things led her to take the class. She enjoys reading, watching Netflix and hanging out with friends. Lauren will also be participating in the MHS swim team this year.
