Games to play in the car

1. ABC Game- The person that finds the most letters of the alphabet wins. Once one person has found a letter, that letter can no longer be claimed by the other players. Letters can be found on billboards, license plates, stores etc.

2. Yellow car- Everyone knows that yellow cars are hard to find on the road. When ever you see a yellow car scream at the top of your lugs “YELLOW CAR!” before anyone else can. Make sure you keep track of how many yellow cars you point out.

3. Tunnels- This one is simple: When you come to a tunnel, see who can hold their breath the longest. True, it may not be one best played by the driver (lightheadedness, anyone?), but everyone else can give it a go.

4. Word chain- One person starts the game. He or she identifies a category and then names one item that fits that category. The next person must name another item that fits the category, on the condition that the item begins with the letter that the previous item ended with. Play continues to each player in turn in the same way. For example, if the category is food and the first person says “pizza,” the players could continue with “apples”, “spaghetti,” “ice cream,” “marshmallow,” etc.

5. Am I a…- Bring some flashcards with you and have everyone write down a bunch of different celebrities and famous people.  Each player picks a card without looking, shows everyone else and then has to ask yes or no questions.  If they get a yes answer, they get to ask another question, if it is a no, it’s the next person’s turn.  For example: “Am I a woman…Am I known for singing…Am I a bad mother…Am I Britney Spears?”

6. Whose next door? - If you are in a traffic queue, making up stories about the people in the car nearby can be funny. Make up what their names are, what they do for a job, what their hobbies are, what pets they have, what their house is like etc. This tends to only work well if someone in the car has a good imagination/sense of humor and can make up outrageous facts.

7. Punch buggy- This is a game everyone knows. Whenever you see a Volkswagen Beetle scream “Punch buggy no punch back!” and punch everyone in the car. If the person who spots the car forgets to say “No punch back,” feel free to punch them back.

8. Padiddle- This is a game to play more at night. When ever you see a headlight out scream “Padiddle!” and slap the roof of the car. The last person to slap the roof has to do whatever the people in the car tell them to until the next headlight is spotted.

9. The License Plate game- See which person can spot the most state license plates. The further away the license plate is from, the more points you earn.
