The Round Table

Announcements: Monday, September 22, 2014

Today we take a moment to commemorate the creation, ratification, and long lasting effects of our most important founding document, the Constitution of the United States.

Written with great struggle and debate during the long, hot summer of 1787, the Constitution bears the signatures of thirty-nine of forty-two delegates representing twelve states. Our founders approved the new structure of government in Philadelphia, on September seventeenth, 1787.

As the architect of the Constitution, James Madison devised a system of government that separates powers into three branches of government … limits the power of governments through checks and balances … protects our individual rights … and allows for change through the amendment process.

Under our Constitution we have:

• Ratified twenty-seven Amendments
• Inaugurated forty-four Presidents
• Sworn in one hundred twelve justices to the Supreme Court
• Held one hundred thirteen Congresses
• Added thirty-seven states to the original thirteen
• Fought seven declared and multiple undeclared wars
• Survived many economic and governmental crises.

Today we continue to thrive as a nation and set the standard for freedom throughout the world.

As we mark the 227th anniversary of our “experiment in democracy” under the Constitution, we should take a moment to contemplate and celebrate the freedoms it affords to us all.

Science National Honors Society Applications for new members are located on the bulletin board outside of room 307. There will be a brief Science National Honor Society meeting for existing members tomorrow, Tuesday, September 23, immediately after school in room 307.

“See You At The Pole” will be held Wednesday morning in the stadium at 6:45 a.m. “See You At The Pole” is a worldwide day of students gathering at their flagpoles to pray for their schools, their communities, and their country. Everyone is welcome to attend. That’s Wednesday morning before school at 6:45 in the stadium.

We need your input for spirit week dress up days. Vote for your top three choices. Use your computer log in to cast your vote. QR code and URL information can be found on the SGA board in the cafeteria.

The SGA is continuing their recycling efforts. We have the re-use a shoe program to donate your old sneakers, Crayola Colorcycle for dried out markers, and our newest addition, a bin for used batteries. All bins are located in the cafeteria.
The Rotary Club Leadership Program applications are due on September 24 to Ms. Langley in the Counseling Center.
