Seniors: The last day to turn in your senior forms for the yearbook is today. If you want us to know your favorite quote and the interesting things you are involved in, turn those forms in to a yearbook staff member or put them in the box outside Room 312. Extra forms are available next to the box. No forms will be accepted after the end of school today.

Attention everyone who is interested in participating in the volleyball tournament. Forms and money are due to Mrs. Anderson in room 516 by Tuesday. If you have a team ready to have some volleyball fun, please drop your form off in Room 516.

No more worrying about having those two dollars in your pocket to get into the games. Twenty-five dollars, yes, twenty-five dollars gets you in to every home, regular season contest for the entire school year. See Mrs. Staub in the front office or Mr. DeSimone to purchase your student pass and join your fellow classmates as they cheer on our Knights.

Are you interested in trying out for the Girls’ Swimming and Diving team? There will be a brief meeting on Wednesday, October eighth in Room 314 starting at two thirty. Please see Coach Mac in Room 217 if you have any questions.

Applying for NHS? Need some service hours? Please see Mrs. Steger for a permission slip if you would like to face paint this weekend at the Middletown Heritage Days anytime from eight a.m. to five p.m.

Along with the beautiful weather on Tuesday afternoon, Middletown High School held a quad meet in the park with Boonsboro, Oakdale, Centennial, and Middletown’s cross country teams taking part. We began the day by recognizing our seniors, Reese Whitesell, Bergren Cliff, David Kelsey, Sam Benner, Alex Menke, and Chris Burgenson. Everyone had great performances with a new school course record set by freshman Riley McDermott. Chris Burgenson led Middletown in the varsity boys race and Kelvin Ngo led in the JV race. All the schools joined in with a pot luck picnic.

Congratulations to JV and Varsity volleyball who both swept the Walkersville Lions Tuesday evening. Good luck to Varsity as they head to the Annual TJ Tournament tomorrow. Both JV and Varsity hope to keep their winning streak alive when they head to TJ on Monday.

Today I am going to talk to you about goal setting:

Today is midterm meaning that you have twenty-four days left in term one. Some of you are thinking, “I did pretty well” and are not worried about taking your interim home next Friday. But some of you are thinking, “well I am in trouble now” and that may mean “in trouble” with people at home because of bad grades, or “in trouble” because you’re worried about your GPA, or “in trouble” because you’re worried about not graduating.

So it is time. It is time for you to set a goal. Successful people succeed because they set realistic and specific goals. It takes time to establish a good habit and slip-ups are part of the process because your brain needs time to get used to a new thing. But that’s OK — you have heard me say before that it’s normal to mess up when trying to make a change.

So the administrators and teachers have been setting goals over the last couple of weeks about what we want to do to improve and help you. And, now I need to share my personal goal with you.

I have gotten into a bad habit of doing everything but exercising over the last few months. This is a problem for me because my family comes to my house for Thanksgiving and we run the 5k Frederick Turkey Trot which is a fundraiser to support Frederick teens and people of all ages who have mental health and financial problems. But right now I AM NOT AT ALL ready for this great race. I am not even sure that I could finish the race! The Frederick Turkey Trot is Thursday, November 27th and I need to start training so that I don’t let my family down and myself down. Researchers say that you are more likely to reach your goal if you say it out loud each morning and write it down and put it where you can see it every day. So I am saying my goal out loud to you. I am going to train for the Frederick Turkey Trot by getting off my computer, putting down my phone, getting out of my chair, and working out. And here is my sign-I have one for home and one for my office. When you see me, feel free to ask me about my progress. So now you know my goal, what goal will you set for yourself?

I like C.S. Lewis’s quote: “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” Just something to think about, I’m Ms. Jeffrey, have a beautiful day.
