Reaction: UNC takes the championship

The 2017 National Championship played host to an exciting matchup between the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Gonzaga Bulldogs. In the end, UNC came out on top, beating Gonzaga 71-65.

Despite both teams being one seeds, this matchup had a David vs. Goliath feel to it, featuring seven time national champion North Carolina and a Gonzaga team who just made their first Final Four this year.

“It’s upsetting that a smaller conference school didn’t win the national championship for once, but Gonzaga didn’t really play any competition all year besides Arizona without Allonzo Trier,” said MHS Sophomore Dan Boush.

The game was close all the way through and had viewers on the edge of their seats.

“It was a great game and I enjoyed watching it,” said MHS Senior Tanner Hebeisen.

Fans of North Carolina showed up in mass numbers to attend Duke’s second round loss to South Carolina. North Carolina had no involvement in the game, but the hatred between the two schools and fans is so strong that UNC fans showed up just to root against Duke.

“I wish Gonzaga won because I like Duke and I don’t really like North Carolina, but they were really good this year and deserved to win,” said MHS Sophomore Sarah O’Toole.
