If you are a junior or senior that has completed six Social Studies courses consider becoming a member of the MHS Social Studies Honor Society, Rho Kappa. Stop by Ms. Purcell’s classroom this week to pick up an application.

Attention juniors and seniors: The following colleges will be making visits to MHS soon. Frostburg State University on Friday, October 12; Lebanon Valley College on Monday, October 15; UMBC on Tuesday, October 16; Wilson College on Wednesday, October 17; Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday, October 18.

All visits will be during KnightsQuest. Please sign up through your Naviance Account.  All sign-ups close 24 hours before the visit. If you have any problems, see Mrs. Bertulaitis in counseling.

In addition, registration for CTC shadowing has begun. Students may choose to shadow one or two programs, and shadowing will begin Thursday, November 1. Please see Mrs. Bertulaitis in counseling for more information or to sign up.

Portraits taken on picture day for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will be handed out during KnightsQuest on Friday, Oct. 12.

Make-up photo day for those who missed the first photo day or want to have their photos retaken will be on Tuesday, Oct. 30. Students who wish to have their photos retaken must bring their original photos with them on Oct. 30.

Students are not required to purchase photos to have their photo appear in the yearbook.

The schedule for make-ups and retakes will be posted on the bulletin boards in the main hallway and outside Room 312, and outside the auditorium doors. It will also be posted on Twitter @mhsrtnews and Instagram @mhsrtnews.

Seniors – Are you applying to four year colleges? You need to be sure that you have sent your SAT and/or ACT scores to the colleges you are applying to. Your counselor cannot send your scores. Scores must be official from the testing agencies. If you have questions, see your counselor.

Are you interested in the law? Do you like to argue or act? If so, consider joining Mock Trial team.  As a team member you will be either a witness or lawyer in a mock court case. This is a competitive team that involves an after school commitment. During competition season, you will argue the case against teams from other schools in the county. An informational meeting will be held in Room 212, Mrs. Thompson’s room on Monday, October 15th from 2:20-3:00.

Field hockey defeated Linganore in double overtime 1-0 Tuesday. The goal came from Paige Welch with an assist from Hayley Barnett. Kaila Tom earned the shut out with 9 saves. JV lost 0-1

Volleyball lost to Smithsburg Tuesday. Sydney Wilber had 9 kills and 7 digs, Maura Doherty had 4 kills and 2 blocks. Michelle Newkirk had 14 assists and 7 digs. The girls play again tonight at Linganore at 7.

Girls cross country won their only home meet of the season Tuesday night, beating Walkersville, Williamsport, and Goretti. The varsity girls were led by Campbell Caldwell in 1st place, Nelly Stafford in 3rd place, Marin Bartman in 4th, Keren Mcrea in 6th, Marilyn Fisher in 7th, Abigail McRea, in 8th, and Annushka Aliev in 11th.

JV girls won as well, led by Zofia Gemegnani in 1st, Brynn Poffenbarger in 2nd, Nastassia Kaleta in 3rd, Catherine Mahoney in 4th, and Grace Humble in 6th.  The girls race next at the CMC Championships next Friday afternoon at Boonsboro.

Boys cross country team took 2nd place at the Run through the Valley invitation here at Middletown yesterday led by Grayson Whitesell who placed 2nd in the race. Other scorers included Jerry Bower in 6th place, Zach Spurrier in 10th, Justin Murdock in 12th, and Baron Ropp in 14th.

Middletown won the JV race with Caleb Snyder with his best race of the year taking first place overall followed by Josh Brull in 3rd, Ben Lucas in 4th, Trey Dravvorn in 6th and Luke Yeatman in 8th.

Varsity girls soccer played to a 0-0 tie against Smithsburg Tuesday.  Kylie Wells had 8 saves in goal. JV girls soccer fought back and tied Smithsburg 2-2. Isabella Ewine had both goals.

JV Girls soccer won a highly physical game last night against Walkersville 2-0. Goals were scored by Isabella Ewine and Caitlin Woelkers. Maggie Perkins and Allie Page combined in goal for the shut out. Girls soccer plays tonight at Linganore at 7.

Boys soccer plays tonight at home at 7.

Attention all students joining the Middletown High School wrestling team: There will be a brief meeting Friday, October 12th right after school at 2:15 in room 313.  All students interested in joining the wrestling team should attend. If unable to attend the meeting see Coach Schartner.

There will be a brief meeting for any girl interested in trying out for the high school swimming and diving team on Thursday, October eighteenth  at two thirty p.m. in the Heritage Room (Room 210). If you are unable to attend the meeting, please see Ms. MacMillan in room 217.
