October is National Bullying Prevention Month. On Wednesday, October twenty-fourth MHS is participating in Unity Day, a day for MHS to show that together we stand against bullying and are UNITED for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. The MHS Student Voices club is working hard to put together an assembly of students speaking up against bullying and apathy to create a community who shows empathy and compassion. If you would like to be a speaker or performer who shares a message of empathy and kindness during this assembly, see Ms. Weaver in the media center by Thursday, October eighteenth.

Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children Story Contest: The media center is hosting a story contest open to all MHS students. Create an original short story or script of one thousand words or less that incorporates at least three photographs. All entries due on Thursday, October twenty-fifth. Winners will be announced at the first Cocoa House. First place winner will receive a signed copy of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and a five dollar gift card to Curious Iguana. See Ms. Weaver for more details.

The Cocoa House is returning on Halloween, Wednesday, October thirty-first during Knight’s Quest. Calling all poets, storytellers, artists, actors, and musicians. Want to perform a spooky, scary, Halloween-themed poem, short story, skit, or song at this year’s first MHS Cocoa House? Submit your performance piece to Ms. Weaver for approval.

Have you read or do you want to read “The Hate U Give” by Angie Thomas? Don’t miss out on the opportunity to be part of a group of students who will read the book, see the movie in theaters, and be part of a discussion with other schools and community members. Interested? See Ms. Weaver in the media center for more details.

High school sophomores and juniors! Nominations are open through Friday, November 2 at 4 PM to apply to serve as the 2019-2020 Student Member of the Board of Education.

This Thursday at 6:30, TBA improv will be having their first show of the 2018-2019 season in the MHS auditorium. It will be free, fun, and fall-tastic. Make sure you’re there!

There will be a lacrosse pre-season meeting Thursday 10/18 after school at 2:30 in the cafeteria.  Anyone interested in playing girls lacrosse in the spring in encouraged to to attend.

The varsity girls soccer team won last night against the visiting Tuscarora Titan’s 2-1.  Abigail Tatem scored the first goal and Julia Grubb tacked on an insurance goal, both coming in the first half.

The MHS field hockey team celebrated their seniors by defeating Oakdale 2-1. Goals came from Aubree Moxley and Skylar Slimmer with assists from Paige Welch (2) and Hayley Barnett. Kaila Tom had 8 saves for the Knights
