Attention juniors and seniors: The following colleges will be making visits to MHS soon:  West Virginia University on Wednesday, October 24; Frederick Community College on Thursday, October 25, Shepherd University, Monday, October 29.

All visits will be during Knights Quest. Please sign up through your Naviance Account.  All sign-ups close 24 hours before the visit. If you have any problems, see Mrs. Bertulaitis in counseling.

In addition, registration for CTC shadowing has begun. There are 21 different programs, and students may choose to shadow one or two programs. Shadowing will begin Thursday, November 1. Please see Mrs. Bertulaitis in counseling for more information or to sign up. In addition, CTC is having their annual Open House this Thursday night, October 25, 6-8pm. This is open to the community and all FCPS families.

October is National Bully Prevention Month and this week is World Character Counts Week. This Wednesday, October twenty-fourth we will celebrate Unity Day and U-KNIGHT in kindness, empathy, acceptance, and inclusion. Our Unity Day activities include:

-Wearing orange, a color commonly associated with safety, visibility, and warmth.

-During Knight’s Quest, the Students Voices club is hosting a Unity Day assembly where student performers and speakers will spread messages of kindness, empathy, acceptance, and inclusion. Students interested in attending should sign up with Ms. Weaver in the media center.

-During lunch, students will have a chance to add their name Six Degrees of Separation poster, a way to show the chain of friends and how we are six or fewer steps away from our connections.

Let’s U-KNIGHT on Unity Day!

Students – Are you Interested in Science, Statistics, journalism or computer graphics?  There will be an information meeting at Middletown High School on Wednesday, October 24th from 2:30 to 3:30 in the Media Center  for the NIH/NCI Internship Program. The Program coordinator from Ft. Detrick will be here to present the information and answer questions. Please contact  Mrs. Gibson for more information

Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children Story Contest: The media center is hosting a story contest open to all MHS students. Create an original short story or script of one thousand words or less that incorporates at least three photographs. All entries due on Thursday, October twenty-fifth. Winners will be announced at the first Cocoa House. First place winner will receive a signed copy of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and a five dollar gift card to Curious Iguana. See Ms. Weaver for more details.

Calling all poets, storytellers, artists, actors, and musicians. Want to perform a spooky, scary, Halloween-themed poem, short story, skit, or song at this year’s first MHS Cocoa House? The Cocoa House is returning on Halloween, Wednesday, October thirty-first during Knight’s Quest. Submit your performance piece to Ms. Weaver for approval.

High school sophomores and juniors: Nominations are open through Friday, November 2 at 4 PM to apply to serve as the 2019-2020 Student Member of the Board of Education.
