The Student Government Association hopes that you had a phenomenal Homecoming Week. We would like to thank the many people that helped, including the JV and varsity volleyball team for laying out the dance floor, the seniors and staff for competing in our first ever Throwdown Showdown, Mr. Colsh for his amazing emceeing skills and Mr. Crompton and Mr. Donald for reffing the game.  We would also like to send an extra thank you to Nate Chance and Katelynn Miller for all their help this week.

If you are a junior or senior that has completed six Social Studies courses consider becoming a member of the MHS Social Studies Honor Society, Rho Kappa. Stop by Ms. Purcell’s classroom this week to pick up an application.

Seniors – are you planning to apply to UMBC for a STEM related major? You may be interested in the Meyerhoff Scholars Program which awards $5,000 to $15,000 per year to students. If you would like to be nominated for this scholarship, sign up in the counseling center by Monday, October eighth.

Volleyball lost in 5 sets to Boonsboro. Grace Paulishak was on fire with 4 aces, 5 blocks, 8 kills and 9 digs. Leah Heon had 4 kills and 5 digs. Sydney Wilber had 4 kills, 9 digs, 4 aces, 5 blocks. Michelle Newkirk had 2 aces, 23 assists and 10 digs. The next match is tomorrow against Smithsburg at home.

JV girls soccer won 2-0 with goals coming from Jadyn Ellett and Jenna Grossnickle.  Allie Page was in goal for the shut out.

Varsity girls soccer team won 1-0 off an Ali Robinson penalty kick.  Maggie Perkins and Kylie Wells combined for the shutout with 8 saves.

The girls cross country team won the Don Stoner Invitational in Smithsburg on Saturday. The girls were led by 5 medalists, including Nelly Stafford in 4th, Campbell Caldwell in 6th, Marin Bartman in 10th, Keren McRea in 16th, and Annushka Aliev in 24th. The girls race in Middletown’s only home meet of the season on Tuesday at Middletown Park. The girls varsity race is at 4:00.

Grayson Whitesell led the Middletown boys cross country team yesterday placing 9th overall out of a field of 86 runners in the Don Stoner Invitational at Smithsburg. Middletown’s other top 5 runners were Jerry Bower, Justin Murdock, Zach Spurrier, and Baron Ropp. Josh Brull led the JV squad as the top performer placing 14th out of 45 runners.
