This year is Chords of Courage’s 2nd Annual STEP UP! Student Songwriting Contest.  It is the only contest of its kind and is only happening in Frederick County. This contest is for all middle and high school students in Frederick County.  Students are encouraged to write songs about people of particular courage.  Song subjects last year ranged from the Parkland FL shooting, to Harriet Tubman, to a teacher battling cancer but sharing her love for reading. MHS student Samantha Johnson won the high school division last year for the song she wrote, performed, and accompanied on her guitar.

Attention Juniors and Seniors: The following colleges will be making visits to MHS soon.  Exact dates are: American University, Friday, November 9; Stevenson University, Monday, November 19; Shippensburg University, Tuesday, November 20, and Allegany College of Maryland, Monday December 10. All visits will be during Knights’ Quest. Please sign up through your Naviance Account.  All sign-ups close 24 hours before the visit. If you have any problems, see Mrs. Bertulaitis in Counseling.

In addition, registration for CTC shadowing has begun. There are 21 different programs, and students may choose to shadow one or two programs. Shadowing began November 1. Please see Mrs. Bertulaitis in counseling for more information or to sign up.

Volleyball beat Seneca Valley on Thursday, November 1st, in 3 sets to none. Maura Doherty had 4 aces and 4 Kills, Grace Paulishak had 7 kills and 10 digs, Sydney Wilbur had 7 kills and 9 digs and Michele Newkirk had 22 assists. Next match is at Damascus on Monday.

Volleyball ended their season on November 5th with a loss to Damascus. Sydney Wilber had 4 kills, 2 blocks and 4 digs, Kate Pusey had 4 kills and 2 blocks and Michele Newkirk had 9 assists and 12 digs, Megan Gilbert had 10 digs.
