Last Friday Todd Ennis, Katie Jones, Andrew Pressly and Mikki Gouge represented MHS at the Maryland Rethink Recycling competition, going up against fifty-five other students from twenty-three schools to use recycled materials to create artistic and innovative sculptures.

Miiki Gouge was awarded seventy-five dollars for her Butterfly relief. Katie Jones received a refurbished laptop for runner up in the Workmanship category for her “Birds of a Feather.” Andrew Pressly won a Nook Tablet for first place in the Creativity category with his “Meeko the Dolphin,” a seven-foot tall work made from Styrofoam, soda cans and water bottles.

Finally, Todd Ennis was the Grand Prize Winner with his “American Flag,” made from reclaimed textiles such as flannel shirts and a fur coat, all unwanted materials from Goodwill. Ennis hand-stitched much of the flag himself, and he received an iPad for his efforts. Congratulations to all of the students for their outstanding efforts.
