Reactions: Linda Brown, of Brown v. BOE, death

Linda Brown, who partook in the staple Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education, passed away on March 25 at the age of 76. Brown v. Board of Education laid the pathway for desegregation in schools in 1954, after a unanimous vote that the “separate but equal” doctrine denied citizens of color 14th Amendment rights. The 14th amendment guarantees to all US citizens equal protection under the law, regardless of race. MHS students react to Brown’s death as a key figure during the civil rights’ movement.

Kim Fleming is a senior at Middletown High School and is currently in her sixth and final semester of journalism. She is extremely excited to be a part of Round Table during her last year of high school as she has always had an interest in writing and loves journalism. Outside of school, Kim competes her horse Willow in mounted games competitions, traveling all over the States and Europe riding in various world competitions. Most recently, she won the 2017 Nations Championship as a part of Team USA, competing against four other countries. After high school, Kim plans to pursue a career in multi-platform journalism studying at University of Maryland in the Philip Merrill College of Journalism.

Shauna Knight is a senior at Middletown High School. She is currently in her third semester of journalism. She loves music, singing and art, and enjoys hanging out with friends, helping others and giving a helping hand when needed. She’s also a comedian; she keeps others laughing and smiling, especially if they’re having a bad day. Keeping things positive is her key goal in life. She’s considering being an engineer and getting involved with business in the future.
