To skip or not to skip?

Note: Not all seniors who were absent today were skipping. Most were…um…at home…sick…

Today is a memorable day for many seniors; today is the first senior skip day of second semester. Upon hearing that today would be a skip day, I was absolutely ecstatic.

I have pretty good attendance for the most part. Sure, I’ll take a mental health day here and there, but generally I try to show up. I get good grades, I work hard. I go to work, stay up late doing homework, and then repeat the whole process. So why shouldn’t seniors get a day of freedom?

I realized, to my dismay, however, that the skip day was on a Friday, which happens to be the day that the website is updated. There was no way I’d be able to skip…or was there?

I racked my brain the last couple days, debating whether or not to skip. Sure, it would be a great day, and one that I most definitely deserve, like most seniors. Something to look forward to, something to enjoy.

In the end, however, my conscience got the best of me and I begrudgingly awoke at 6 am to get ready for school. Because so many seniors were absent, however, it ended up being a pretty easy day. I’d even go as far to say it was a fun school day.

So while I’m sure I’ll get my skip day sooner or later, but today was just not the day.

To all the seniors who did get to go, I hope the day was memorable. You didn’t miss much.
