MHS students anticipate arrival of Twilight movie

On Nov. 21, the highly anticipated movie “Twilight” will open in theaters across the world. At Middletown High School, this movie premiere is creating a palpable buzz of excitement throughout the hallways.

The movie “Twlight”, which is based on the novel by Stephanie Meyer, follows the story of a plain-jane girl named Bella Swan who falls madly in love with a handsome, intriguing vampire named Edward Cullen. This modern day “Romeo and Juliet” with a fantasy twist has caused a cult-like following among fans that echoes not only around the halls of MHS, but throughout the world as well.

“The story is so intriguing,” said senior Kristen Kidd. “Every girl who reads it wants a boyfriend like Edward, someone to go all out for you.”

Junior Kira Bowers agrees that the novels are “completely addicting.”

“They’re not like real life,” said Bowers. “It’s more suspenseful and exciting.”

Indeed, most “Twilight” fans would agree that the breathtaking romance combined with thrilling adventure creates a memorable and lasting story that rivals even the Harry Potter series.

The question on every “Twilight” fan’s mind, however, is whether or not the movie will compare to the national best-selling page-turner.

“I definitely hope the movie is as good as the book, but it will be hard to top,” said senior Laine Pendleton.

Kidd agrees that the movie may not be as good because “you make up your own characters in your mind, and sometimes they are totally different from the actors.”

Regardless of whether or not the movie will compare to the book, there is certainly still much to be excited for in the movie.

“I’m most excited to see how the movie portrays the different characters,” said Kidd.

Bowers is also looking forward to “being able to picture the story more clearly in my mind.”

Even though doubts about how the film version will stack up to the book remain, most “Twilight” fans plan on seeing the movie anyways

“I’m going at midnight when it opens,” said Kidd. “And then I’ll probably see it four or five more times.”

What is this? What is Twilight? I know that it is a vampire novel, but to what extent? Is it really a novel about vampires? Or is it more of a romance story with vampires tossed in on the side to bring in more poeple? I’ve never read the stories, for that is what I’m asking about.
