MHS students prepare for talent show

The Middletown High School Student Government Association is holding the Talent Show at 7 p.m. on March 18.

The show includes student-lead bands, solos, duets, quintets and even a comedic juggler. A few select teachers will judge and one act will be chosen as the winner.  Many of the contestants are getting ready by revving up their voices or stringing their guitars.

MHS freshman Sam Bower, the lead singer and bass player of the City Limits, said, “I have performed about seven times in front of large audiences – three times at the Green Turtle, twice at parties, once at my church, and at a concert in Ijamsville. [So I’m getting ready by] warming up my voice… and trying new and different stage moves like jumping off amps…”

MHS junior Rebecca Huff, MHS SGA chairman of special events, will be co-hosting the Talent Show with MHS junior Matt Carlstrom. Huff said she is expecting a large audience at the show to support the contestants’ talent. “To get ready for the show,” she said, “Matt and I have been coming up with a script to read off.”

MHS sophomore Chelsea Park-Browse is playing the guitar and singing with sophomore Val Case for the show. “After school, I would get together with Val and we would meet up at each other’s houses and practice one song at a time,” said Park-Browse.

So preparing for the Talent Show is a trip for all, no matter what. There may be stage fright, but the support from others is the best medicine.

“We are kind of each other’s support system and if one of us messes up, the other continues on and then they find their way to get back in there since it’s a harmony,” said Park-Browse.
