The annual All-County Adjudication for the bands was held this past Wednesday, March 18 at Oakdale High School. Directed by Matthew Shearer, the MHS Wind Ensemble and Concert Band performed, and each scored superior ratings.

The Concert Band played three selections: “Ayre for Eventide,” from Three Ayres from Gloucester, “Court Festival,” and “Emerata Overture.”

The Wind Ensemble played “Amazing Grace,” “Second Suite in F,” and “Satiric Dance.” After the performances, each band had to sight-read a piece of music.

The bands could have scored a one through four, one being the highest, on their performances by 4 judges plus the sight-reading judge. Both Concert Band and Wind Ensemble scored a one, which is superior.

“We did a lot better than I expected,” said Concert Band trumpet player Noah Denier.

When the bands returned to MHS, they were treated to pizzas ordered by Shearer. “I think the performance today was one of the band’s overall best performances this year,” said tuba player Adam Meadors. “We’ve grown a lot as an ensemble and really pulled things together to make a great performance.”
