The Round Table named the best in the county

Members of the Middletown High School journalism class were honored at the The Frederick News-Post/Mike Powell Excellence in Journalism Awards ceremony on May 19. Student journalists submitted articles which were judged by FNP editors. MHS competed against five other county schools: Urbana, Frederick, Gov. Thomas Johnson, Tuscarora and Catoctin.

MHS won the title of Sweepstakes Winner, meaning it produces the best newspaper in the county. This was the eighth time in a row that MHS has been given this award.

Under the news category, junior Alexa Kane placed third, senior Lauren Redding placed second and senior Rob Michels placed first.

Under the category of continuing coverage, junior Kevin Parker placed third.

Under the category of features, junior Casey film placed honorable mention and Redding placed first.

Under the category of profile, senior Maegan Clearwood placed third, Redding placed second and senior Emily Maerz placed first.

Maerz also placed honorable mention under the category of editiorial.

Under the category of column, education subject, senior Kathleen Roeder tied for honorable mention.

Under the category of column, humor, sophomore Dan Roeder placed third, Clearwood placed second and junior Zach Langely placed first.

Under the category of column, sports, junior Marissa Gastelle placed first.

Under the category of review, junior Porter Darby tied for honorable mention and sophomore Sean Raleigh tied for first.

Junior Kara Henson placed third under sports story. Parker placed honorable mention under sports features.

Under news photography, senior Michael Seliga placed honorable mention, sophomore Victoria Oleyar placed third and Clearwood placed first.

Under feature photography, junior Emily Holcomb placed honorable mention and Oleyar placed third.

Under sports photography, senior Leah Numbers placed third and sophomore Ash Maia placed first.

Under artwork, Film placed third and senior Katie Byrum placed first. Numbers placed third under newspaper design.
