Football: Knights main focus is “to beat Frederick”

Knights look to extend winning streak to 28 in what is sure to be a dirty game

The Middletown High School football team will take on Frederick at home tonight; this is the highly coveted homecoming game for the Knights, and the Cadets are sure in for a beating.

The Knights are 5-0 for the third straight year, and are riding a 27 game winning streak. The Cadets on the other hand are 1-4 coming off of a 7-3 and season in which they were the only team that challenged the Knights throughout the season. The Knights beat them 28-25 in a thrilling matchup.

The Knights are comfortably ahead in the point standings in the 2A West region with 43 points; the next closest team is South Carroll who has accumulated 31 points.

Frederick is in second to last in the 3A West region, as they have accumulated only seven points so far this season.

The boys on the Middletown High School Homecoming court are all on the football team. MHS Senior Bradley Rinehart is one of those players.

“Although this year all the guys on the court are football players, I know that homecoming is the last thing on our minds.” Says Rinehart, “Beating Fredrick is our only focus right now.”

Rinehart certainly has the ability to literally carry his team to victory; he is averaging 86.3 rush yards per game this year, and is averaging 14 solo tackles a game on the defensive side of the ball.

“Without the linemen there would be no running back,” says Rinehart. “ They block their butts off for me, so I’m just going to bust my tail for them.”

There has been buzz around the Middletown community all day about the possibility of the football game being postponed after four straight days of rain, and the Boys Soccer game being postponed to Saturday.

All chance of a delay was halted though, when the Brunswick and South Hagerstown football game had to be moved to the MHS field tomorrow at two pm, and the Boys Soccer matches from last night were moved to 10 and 11:30 am tomorrow.

Even if tonight’s game were to be rescheduled to tomorrow after the Brunswick and South Hagerstown game that would leave virtually no time for students to get ready for homecoming. So unless there is lightning expect to see the Knights and Cadets take the field tonight.

“We haven’t been challenged yet by weather, but it’s nothing we can’t handle.” Says Rinehart, “We are great with adjustments, which is part of the reason we are so successful.”

The Knights will be hoping that stays true tonight in what will be a dirty ground and pound game, as the Knights try to gain yet another win on homecoming weekend.
