Unified Sports is a family, not a team

Candid+Picture

Unified sports is not just your ordinary sports team, having events happening in the fall, winter and spring. Unified sports is a great way to spend your afternoon on Mondays and Wednesday right after school.

As a proud athlete on this fine after school team I feel like it raises every member’s self-esteem to the max. Unified Sports to me isn’t just your average high school team. I have found that unified sports brings people together who you wouldn’t expect.

It also allows teens that are enrolled in special education in the public school system to participate in activities they would not normally be found playing. These sports include but are not limited to: Tennis, Bocce and Track and Field.

I’m not sure if it has the same effect on other members as it does on me, but I feel like I have a family that isn’t my blood related family. Another thing that makes unified sports worth participating in is the fact that the members don’t care about winning or losing.

For example, during track events if we see someone struggling to get to the finish line the other members go and run next to them or cheer them on giving positive feedback.  We don’t just stop there we also cheer on other schools.

But the fun doesn’t stop there. I advise you to come out and participate in the fun next year.
