Marching Knights perform for elementary school students

By Dana Doggett

The Middletown Marching Knights played their most popular music for Wolfsville, Myersville, and Middletown Elementary school students on October 28.

Traveling to each of the elementary schools in full uniform, the band performed its field show; “Malaguena”, the Rolling Stones’ “Paint it Black,” stand jams “Burrito” and “Chant,” and the Middletown Fight Song.

The performance was an effort by Middletown High School band director Matt Shearer to get elementary school students interested in joining band class. Students can choose to play an instrument in third grade.

Marching Knights Drum Major Leah Cockerham said the performance was “a big success.” She said she hopes in five years the marching band will be huge, filled with students who remember this performance. “Maybe someday marching band will be the cool thing to do,” Cockerham said.

The 62-member band will travel to Annapolis on November 8 for their final competition of the 2009 season.
