Every year, Homecoming plays an extremely significant role in the Middletown High School community. Rolling in the fall season, everyone comes out to support the MHS varsity football team, gets all dolled up for the dance, and participates in spirit week. This year, multiple factors made this Homecoming a weekend that everyone was ready for.
After losing to Urbana in regular season last year in football, anger and revenge had sparked up between all fans and players. Therefore, it was huge deal when it was decided that Middletown would be playing them this year for Homecoming.
“We’re not preparing for this game any differently than we do for any other game,” says Kevin Lynott, head coach of the MHS varsity football team. “We try to look at every game the same. Urbana’s always been a good team; in fact, we’ve only beaten them once or twice in school history. It’s going to be a good game.”
The game ended 41-20, with MHS victorious; the evening was celebrated with the SGA’s contribution of a spectacular fireworks show.
Later in the weekend, the majority of MHS students attended the “New York City” -themed dance.
“It was really cool, the entrance looked like you were entering a subway station, and the decorations were really theme-coordinated,” said senior Claire Capuccilli.
