Chasing history

Chasing history

Arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan led the 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls to a 72-win regular season. The Bulls went on to win the NBA Championship, going down as the greatest basketball team in NBA history. A modern-day NBA regular season is 82 games long, so being able to win more than 60 games is remarkably amazing, let alone 72.

However, in this year, the 2015-2016 NBA season, the Golden State Warriors are currently 56-6 with a relatively easy 20 remaining games, and have a great opportunity to attempt to surpass 72 wins.

The Golden State Warriors greatest competition lingering this season is themselves. The Warriors, led by current MVP and NBA Champion Stephen Curry, have rarely shown signs of struggle or hardship simply because they are too talented for any other team this season.

Recently, on Feb. 27, the Warriors defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in a 121-118 overtime thriller. Throughout the game, the Thunder were in control behind Kevin Durant’s 37 points but as they have done time and again, Curry’s Warriors fought back to take the game into overtime. Curry ended with 46 points and an unbelievable half-court shot with .6 seconds left in overtime to take the lead, 121-118. With hardly any time left, the Warriors held on to win and have kept moving forward to their current record of 56-6.

With 20 games remaining in the regular season, the Golden State Warriors have a tremendous chance to stamp their brand on history.

The Warriors are now 45-0 at home, after recently defeating the Orlando Magic this past on March 7. The Warriors have now passed the ’95-’96 Chicago Bulls for the most consecutive home wins.

It is almost impossible to stop the Warriors when Curry and the rest of the team are firing on all cylinders.

“Honestly, it isn’t fair,” said by basketball fan Ryan Parker. I agree completely agree: the Warriors have had more talent and used it more effectively from the start of the Curry era.

Michael Jordan once said, “Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.” The way that the Warriors work together and play the game with passion makes it extraordinary for millions of basketball fanatics to watch. The Warriors seem to have that ’95-’96 magic and are in sight of the fairy tale ending of which players can only dream. With 20 games left, the Golden State Warriors are chasing history.

They’re going to catch it.
