Living outside of technology

Living+outside+of+technology

People these days are beginning to neglect the priorities and positives of living. All human beings, especially young adults/teens, such as myself, seem to have forgotten that living is something to treasure, be proud of, and made the most of. Yet we only see people texting, talking on the phone, video chatting, instagramming, anything that is reliant on technology, really. Even as I sit at this computer typing out my opinion, I’m using technology. It’s partially sickening and disgusting to watch how people are wasting their lives away, and I feel as teenagers and the new upcoming generation in the lead, we need to focus more on the quality of life and doing things on our own. We have become so reliant on it; there are even some cars that park themselves. How lazy can someone possibly be? I sometimes go to the park with my grandmother, mostly to run around or see my friends, but while I’m there, there are people who could care less, and are using their phones the entire time they are there. I almost want to say, “Hello? Do you not see the natural beauty around you? Trust me, you can last for thirty minutes without your electronic device.”

Now, even though in my opinion, we have become way too reliant on technology, I do think there are a lot of benefits to having such advanced technology as we do. It has helped preserve lives, made living quality better, made education more advanced, etc. However, what’s the point of living a life when all that you’re going to do is sit behind your device and ignore everything around you? There isn’t much of a point, to be quite truthful. Although, I am not saying that people should just go ahead and die, I’m just trying to prove my point. Also, I am guilty of all of the technological dependencies as mentioned earlier, and I am in no way trying to sound like a hypocrite. This is also something I need to work on, as well as the majority of people around me.

I feel that if we become so dependent on technology, people will become so bored will their lives or such ill thinkers, that the entire world will be dumb. I mean, why try to think up a logical answer when you can go on your Apple device or any other device and pull up Google and ask it a question? We won’t even know how to think, let alone put enough brain power into answering a question. I recently read a book called Fahrenheit 451, and that book practically described a potential outcome of our future. It talked of how people were so reliant on technology, everyone become bored with their lives. So bored in fact, running people over with a car at high speeds and killing them became a fun game to children ages 12 and under. Can you imagine a society like that?

In the end, as mentioned earlier, teenagers are the future. We will be the ones with the children, the family, the bills, the newest thing, anything. We will have the biggest impact on the generation to come after us, and I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to teach a child that it is okay to be so reliant on technology that you cannot think for yourself. I don’t want them to Google “how to run a nation” or “how to talk to foreign countries in debate so they don’t start a war” or “how to win a war”. I want to live in a nation that has forward thinkers, smart thinkers, and happy people. So, maybe getting outside to enjoy the view, or seeing people in person once in a while can’t really hurt us. Correct?
