MHS foreign exchange student shares her fall experience in the U.S

I have been staying in the United States for three months and I have already experienced a lot of events.

In the first weeks, I met a lot of new people and sometimes I had some problems to remember all the names, but not anymore.

Because I had arrived just three days before my school started, I couldn’t go to any tryouts. I was really sad about this because I’d liked to be on a sports team.

But I just asked around and finally one of my friends said that I might have the opportunity to join the Unified Tennis Team. This would be the perfect sport for me because I love badminton and table tennis, so I had the chance to combine those sports.

I was so glad about her suggestion and immediately I went to the coach and talked to him. He was very nice and welcomed me to the team. So don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice. There is always somebody helping you out.

Tennis had become my new passion, every week I was looking forward to our next practices which were twice a week for one hour. I really loved the team. We had so much fun together, supported each other during the games and had a fantastic team spirit.

But in the mid of October, we didn’t win the important tournament and since then we haven’t practiced anymore. I was really upset about this. However, a few weeks later, we all met as a team again and we had a wonderful afternoon eating as much ice cream as we could together.

At the moment, I’m thinking of which winter sport team I should join, but I really encourage everybody who wants to be an exchange student in the future to get involved in sports teams and clubs because it is a super opportunity to make many new friends and have fun after school.

October offered many interesting adventures. I went to the homecoming from my high school. I was very nervous and excited how it was going to be. At this Saturday, my host sister and I had started getting dressed and ready three hours before we went to the school.

Everything was so exciting: everybody looked so pretty and the school gymnasium had turned into a disco. I really enjoyed the music and dancing with my friends. It was a great experience and I’m very glad that I had the opportunity to go to an American Homecoming.

Halloween was just a few weeks later. My local coordinator (of my exchange organizations) organized a Halloween party for the exchange students. It was a lot of fun. We had plenty of food and we also went Trick or Treating.

After we had returned to her house, we played some games in order to receive more candy. It was an awesome evening!
I’m looking forward to the experiences which I’m going to make in November. For example, I’m very excited for Thanksgiving!
