The Lodge, a restaurant near the movie theater and Chipotle, was closed earlier this year. This makes me very angry because it served amazing foreign food with an American twist. The first time I ate there was on my birthday. It was a sunny September day outside when I decided to try wild boar. The new menu item at the Lodge reminded me of Pumba from The Lion King. The tall waiter, about 6’2”, said that it was healthier than pork and that is was the same type of animal as a pig. When the wild boar was served, it had crispy French fries and a bountiful green salad with crunchy croutons on the side. The sandwich itself had creamy coleslaw with a southern twist of jalapenos. The wild boar looked like a well-done steak. I took the first bite of the meal and it was very sweet and juicy inside. It had taste qualities of pork, but looked and felt very different. It was one of the best tasting meats that my mouth had ever experienced; it tasted 1000% better than pork. I could taste the oregano and thyme seasoning of the boar. I could taste a hint of some seasoning that resembled rosemary, but did not have enough of the taste to reassure me. I began to search what a wild boar looked like in the wild on my smartphone. It looked like a hairy pig with minuscule tusks around the bottom half of his face. In Medieval Times, the boar was a very common meal at a feast or gathering. Once hunted, the boar’s meat was eaten and its head was used as a centerpiece. Although there was not a boars’ head at the center of my table, I felt that maybe, just maybe, I had a taste of what the knights used to feast on.
