Town of Middletown thriving financially

Middletown is financially thriving based on an audit reviewed by the burgess and commissioners at its town meeting on Feb. 27.

Middletown has had more than $1 million in improvement, connection and capital improvement fees. Middletown’s debt has also been decreased by $740 thousand. The overall net position of Middletown has been increasing over the past few years.

Governmental revenues within taxes and grants have been increasing during the past few years. The year of 2019 has had a little more than $3.5 million in total governmental revenues, compared to the year 2018, which had a little less than $3.5 million in total governmental revenues.

Governmental expenditures in total have decreased in Middletown and have been decreasing since 2018. In 2019, public services expenditures have decreased, public safety expenditures have slightly decreased, parks and recreation expenditures have decreased to a little more than $1 million, debt services have decreased to about one-third of $1 million and the general government of Middletown expenditures have decreased to just more than $1 million. 

In 2019, the total water and sewer revenues almost reached $2.5 million for Middletown.The water and sewer fees have stayed a little more than $1 million since 2018. Other fees involving water and sewers have generated $1 million, which was an increase from 2018, which was one-fifth lower than 2019. Leases for water and sewer have stayed the same since 2018 at less than $300,000.
