The Middletown High School boys basketball team fell last night to Francis Scott Key in the 2a West Quarterfinal. The Knights season ended in a 51-32 loss to the number four seed Eagles.
Middletown put up a fight, but they were unable to get into the lane due to the Eagles stifling perimeter defense. FSK held the Knights to only two points in the first quarter. Middletown shot 1-for-10 in the first while also turning the ball over five times.
Despite the tough first quarter the Knights were down only eight at the half, but FSK came out of the locker room on fire and eventually finished the third on 9-2 run.
It didn’t help that the Knights were cold to start the second half and it continued all the way through the third, Middletown shot only 2-9 and turned the ball over seven times.
Leading the way for FSK was Kris Myers who scored a game high 11 points coming off the bench. Blake Straitman and Collin Zimmerman also put up eight points each.
The high scorer for Middletown was Ben Panther who finished with eight, Bradley Rinehart and Paul Aniugo each scored five, Tim Schumacher and Ian Grife led the way for the Knights on defense as they finished with five steals and five blocks respectively.
It has been a rough season for the Knights, but they will look forward to next year as three starters will be returning for their senior year, and outstanding freshmen Matt Considine will most likely be moved up to varsity. They also have a strong future with sophomores Ian Roy, Cedric Ayenu and Colson Kirchner.
