Football

The Middletown High School Football team finished the season with a fourteen– zero record and went into the playoffs as the number one seed. The Knights beat South Carroll, Walkersville, Elkton; they also beat Fredrick Douglass in a championship rematch from 2011. Running back Zach Welch led the team to their second straight state championship rushing for 1,957 yards this season, and set a single game Frederick County record rushing for 354 yards. Two players made all-state first team for the Knights this year, Welch and senior LB Sean Wenner. Their second team players were senior OL Parker Johnson, and Junior DL Ricky Leonard, and receiving Honorable Mention is senior FB Jess Powell, and Junior RB Bradley Rinehart.

Girls Soccer

The MHS Girls Soccer team won its third straight class 2A championship. The team was led by experienced and battle tested MHS seniors Brittany George and Mackenzie Noel. George anchored the knight’s defense, while Noel gave the knights consistency in the midfield. In the championship the score was tied with 20 seconds remaining, over time seemed inevitable, but with one swing of her foot MHS Junior Mary Pritts scored the game winning goal from 25 yards out to give the knights their third straight championship.

Boys Soccer

The MHS boys soccer team finished the season 10-5-1, the knights made it to the class 2A quarterfinals, and lost in a hard fought game to South Carroll. The Knights were lead to the quarterfinals by captains Zach Fotnenot, David Burgenson, Josh Greene, and Dylan Smith. The Knights had a respectable season after JV coach Jeff Colsh moved up to coach Varsity after the retirement of legendary coach Bob Sheffler.

Field Hockey

The knights finished the season with an 8-6 record; they headed into the playoffs as the number 3 seed. They reached the semifinals and lost to Demascus. The Knights were led by senior defender Mariah Ginebra, as a key piece on a defense that posted 7 shutouts; Ginebra was named to first team all –area. The knights were also helped by fellow first – team defender Amy Rothenhoefer. Making second – team for the knights was junior midfielder Sarah Mueller, senior attacker Ariel Ford and senior midfielder Blake Gastley. The knights will lose 6 seniors going into the 2013 season.

Golf

The golf team finished their season with their best record ever at 43-6-1. They were the district champions, placed second at the county championship, tied for first in their conference and placed fifth at states. Freshmen Jake Darr lead the team with a 37.6 nine hole average, and senior captain Phil Addington with a 41.4 average and he finished 17th at states. The coach for the knights is Jason Aud, his record in 4 seasons with the knights 141-36-6. The Knights head into the 2013 season with high expectations as Darr will be returning for his sophomore season.

Volleyball

The Middletown volleyball team finished their 2012 season with a winning record of 7-6. Unfortunately, the Knights were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by a strong Poolesville squad. Middletown was led by captains Dani King, Emily Rabat, and Sam Higginbothem. Emily Rabat also lead the team in kills. Middletown also got strong contributions from sophomores, Sara Wenner and Ellie Collins.

Aside from journalism, Forbes plays football and volunteers on the unified bocce team. Come winter time, Forbes likes to hit up the homies and shred the gnar at Whitetail and Liberty mountain. Forbes is an aggressive young go-getter and an up and comer in the journalism game, so watch out.
