Girls indoor track looks promising once again

Winter sports have arrived at Middletown High School and the girls indoor track team will open the season on Dec. 5 at Hagerstown Community College for their first meet. This season the team will be rebounding back after several state titles last season, and is looking to repeat again.

“This year we want to repeat as state champs,” said Coach Tom Stevens

Many returning state champions are back again this year, but also a lot of new, younger athletes.

“The young kids need to get used to this competition” said Stevens. “They’re going to have to try something new.”

This year’s standout athletes are returning seniors and captains Brittney Caudle and Kathryn Papuchis.

“I would like to break my personal record in the 800, and I’m running the mile this year, I would like to go to indoor nationals again this year,” said Caudle

Last season Caudle was a standout on the team helping them in many ways to snag the state title.

Kathryn Papuchis, also a returnee of the state title team is a hurdle runner. “I’m trying to place in the top three in the county time wise, and I’d like to beat the school record which is 8.8 seconds in the 55 hurdles,” said Papuchis.

This season their competition will come from Thomas Johnson High School and Urbana High School athletes.

“This year is going to be different, but better,” said Stevens
