The Middletown High School Boys Basketball team finished 2-0 at the annual Hubs Holiday Classic, and have now won three more games than it did all of last year.
On Dec. 27 the Knights played in in their closest game of the season against the North Hagerstown. Middletown came away with a 55-50 win after a 14-2 run in the final minutes.
The Knights showed the offensive versatility they lacked last year, with big three-pointers by sophomores Clay Smith and Matt Considine. Considine finished with 11 points on three makes from downtown. Smith led the way for the Knights with 15.
On Dec. 28 the Kights offense was unstoppable, attacking the inferior Smithsburg Leopards from the inside out. The Knights cruised to an easy 81-43 win.
Juniors Ian Roy and Will McClain stepped up for the Knights against Smithsburg. McClain used his size in his 13 point, 10 rebound double-double. Roy was the high man for the Knights with 15.
Seniors Tim Schumacher and Brad Rinehart made it tough for the Leopards to even get the ball up the court with their defense. Schumacher recorded five steals, and along with his stellar perimeter defense, Rinehart, dished out eight assists.
After winning their first two games the Knights lost two in row to county powers Oakdale and Urbana, but with two at the Hubs Holiday Classic the Knights take 4-2 record into a stretch where seven of their next nine games are at home.
