The Knights boys basketball team is above .500 for the first time in a long time. After the Knights, 57-52, win over Century Dec. 13. The Knights will look to continue their winning ways in a showdown at Brunswick on Dec. 16.
“We are confident, but not over confident,” said junior guard Ian Roy. “It is all going to come down to how we play as a team, and the chemistry we have on the court.”
In the win against Century the Knights played with grit and toughness. They were able to come away with the win because of great on ball pressure in the fourth quarter by seniors Tim Schumacher, and Mitch Sgrignoli.
The Knights are a young team, carrying two sophomores and five juniors, but they bring back four starters from last year, and six seniors.
Five of the six seniors were on the state championship football team, and as to be expected the football players were rusty heading into the Century game, under a week after the state title game.
“It is tough [integrating the football players],” said Roy. “We are working hard to find everyone’s strengths and weaknesses so we can play together at a higher level.”
The transition seemed to get easier for the Knights as the game went on. Especially for Schumacher, who began the game with two turnovers, but was able to bounce back and give the Knights a huge boost.
Senior Brad Rinehart was the Knights main scoring option, and showed nice explosiveness to the rim, and a refined jump shot from last year.
Tonight begins a three game road trip for the Knights, and then two games at a neutral site in North Hagerstown. Following the Brunswick game the Knights will face arguably the two best teams in Frederick County in Oakdale, and Urbana.
“It is very important [to get a win tonight],” said Roy. “We to gain some momentum before we play Urbana, and Oakdale on the road.”
