The Middletown High School boys basketball team (7-4, 2-4 MVAL) admits they went through a rough stretch. The Knights were unable to pull off victories on their home court against Walkersville and Frederick, but as they always seem to do this season the Knights bounced back, this time with a 77-61 victory at Thomas Johnson Jan. 13.
“[Winning the game against Thomas Johnson] was important because it dug us out of a little hole,” said Knights senior guard, Brad Rinehart. “We got another win under our belt.”
The Knights used what may be their biggest weapon against the Patriots- the three ball. The Knights biggest threat from beyond the arch, sophomore Matt Considine, had 14 points, and the Knights were able to hit a combined seven three-point field goals.
Rinehart, as usual, was able to slash to the bucket and score14 points. MHS senior Tim Schumacher continued his excellent perimeter defense by racking up five steals.
Thomas Johnson was certainly a nice game to get the Knights back on track, but facing the Tuscarora Titans (8-1, 4-1 MVAL) will be a whole different monster.
The Titans only loss came against Oakdale, but they still sit tied for first atop the MVAL Piedmont division.
“The game tonight will be tough,” said MHS junior, Ian Roy. “If we play together, leave everything on the court and execute we will be fine.”
Tuscarora is coming off a close, 61-60, victory over Linganore. The Titans were able to narrowly escape Linganore with a victory after the Lancers 24-15 run in the fourth.
“We have a lot of confidence going into tonight’s game,” said Rinehart. “Hopefully we can pull out a win tonight.”
It will be tough, but the Knights have a certain swagger that will be hard for the Titans to match.
“It’s obvious that it’s anybody’s game this year,” said Rinehart. “So hopefully we can pull out a win tonight.”
