Two Middletown High School bands recently played at Make ‘N’ Music’s battle of the bands on October 9th and October 16th.

Arcade Lights played on the 9th against a band from Walkersville called Hit the Fence. Arcade Lights consists of MHS juniors Griffin Taube on guitar and vocals, Connor Bowen on bass and vocals, and Matt Full on drums.

Hit the Fence also has three members; on guitar and vocals is Mitch Masser, on drums is Jake Kneisley, and on bass is Robert Poyner.

The two bands had completely different sounds and each got a good response from the crowd. However, Arcade Lights bassist, Bowen didn’t care if his band won.

“I feel confident that we are going to put on a good show and maybe get some more fans,” said Bowen.

Arcade Lights did not make it to the next round; they were two short ballets of the victory in a vote by the audience.

The other MHS band, My Best Friend’s Birthday, was a bit luckier.

Faith in Jane and My Best Friend’s Birthday battled sound waves on the second date, October 16th.

Faith in Jane opened the competition and played through their set quickly and left almost immediately afterwards.

My Best Friend’s Birthday played second and was full of energy throughout the entire set. The band consists of four MHS students, junior Cole Butler on bass, junior Phil DiGioia on drums, senior Adam Meadors on guitar, and senior Ryan Page on trombone and vocals.

Meadors, the most animated of the members, was jumping while playing a song and fell on his back. He kept playing regardless of the inconvenience of being on the floor.

Overall, the interaction with the crowd won them the round.

The final round of the battle of the bands will be held November 8th, and will be between Hit the Fence from Walkersville and My Best Friend’s Birthday from Middletown. The rivalry continues.
